The pop-out chat link no longer uses the old style chat.
However, it is still a nice way to save on memory and be able to refresh
without losing both chat and video. The easiest way to do this is to open the pop-out chat in a browser window. Log in. (Type a period in the chat line—hit enter. This will open the login screen.) Size this chat window to equal about 1/3 of your desktop space. Then open a new window or tab (Ctrl-T or Ctrl-N in most browsers) and use it to open the pop-out video. If you opened a new tab, you can then click on the tab and drag it to an open space on your desktop. Size it to about 2/3 of your desktop space beside the chat. Now you have both open and can refresh one without disturbing the other. You can resize either without resizing the other. I hope this helps. |

Pop-Out |
If you want to view the chat or video in pop-out screens, use the links below. Some find that this places less stress on their computer and/or its memory. |

|
If you use the pop-out links, it is recommended that you open two browser windows. That way, if one needs to be refreshed, the other is not affected. |

you include your chat name and your pet's name. You can also include
your real name and location if you want to. I've only gotten photos from a few people. (The new page will be posted soon—just waiting on some graphics from TheDude.) Surely more chatters have pets that they'd like to show to the world! |

Vaca Blog |
Hello Vriends, | ||
Today is it--the last day of the Yolo County Fair, and me and
the missus are getting ready to head out for the day. I don't
know any of the results for their photography competition, so
this will likely be my last chance at some ribbons in 2016--at
least in the county fair circuit. There are some other photo
contests that I have my eye on (some are online).
Now I need to get back out there with the camera and get the photos that I will be putting into contests next year! To that end, I spent the day in San Francisco yesterday. The weather has been very foggy in the City for the last couple of weeks, so I went there at around 4am with the hopes of getting some foggy street shots. Well, when I arrived at around 4:30am, it was overcast but clear as a bell at street level. So that was a tad disappointing. However, I tried to make the best of it and spent some time in North Beach, the Marina, and Land's End (including the ruins of the Sutro Baths). I ended by shooting the Civil War re-enactors at Fort Point (tucked right under the southern end of the Golden Gate Bridge). Last night I developed the first of three rolls of B&W film I shot, and the exposures look good. Now I need to scan that to see if I got the focus right. I was having a bit of a struggle focusing the TLR, but that was because I had forgotten my reading glasses at home. So hopefully it was just my eyes not working, and not a mechanical issue with the camera. Then of course I need to develop the two remaining rolls. I gave myself a bit of a scare yesterday--I lost my car for a while! I was having trouble finding parking in North Beach (due to a bunch of construction zones), and finally I found one and parked. Then I set off on foot to get back to Columbus Avenue. Unfortunately, I did not write down the name of the street where I parked. After I got my photos, I bought a cup of coffee and headed back to the car. Only it wasn't where I was thinking it was. I spent about 45 minutes walking all over, up and down hills (great exercise!)..and getting increasingly freaked-out. Just as I was convinced that the car had either been stolen or towed, I got the idea of looking back through the photos on my camera to identify landmarks that I had gone by, and then just working backward from there. Sure enough, I rounded a corner and there was the Cruiser! I guess I'm getting to that age. A friend of mine tells me that every time they park in the city, they turn around and take a snapshot of the street with their smartphone. That's smart--I'm going to have to start doing that! Well, I want to try to develop another roll of film before we leave for the fair, so I will chat with you later! Have a great week, y'all! |
||
Cheers, VacaDude | ||

ChatterChopz | CC wanted to share a couple of photos with you.
We found this free on the side of the road on the way home from church. Most folks would call it a toddler chair. We brought it in and Scruffy knew immediately that it was his! That's his "Lovey" in the chair. (Scruffy is the young feral cat that we spent a year trying to socialize. He is now a very happy indoor cat.) PS. The chair's not dirty like it seems in the pictures. |

A Message From Zorro | StoryTime News | Recipe of the Week |
Hello there, Everbuddy! | ||
It's Fair Day!!! In a little while, I and Freddy and the
Dude and the Dudette are going to pile into the car and
head up to Woodland to go to the Yolo County Fair. This
will prolly be my last chance this year to get a corn
dog and other deep-fried goodies. I need to bulk-up now
before I go into hibernation. Then in the spring I can
come out and go to the Dixon May Fair again, and start
the eating of yummy things again.
Wait, what's that, Dude? I don't hibernate? Don't be silly--of COURSE I do! I have lots of mini-hibernations during the month, and then I come out of them to read the StoryTimes! That's it--StoryTime and greasy food. I wake up for those things, but pretty-much sleep the rest of the time. Actually things around here will get pretty busy soon. The Dude is finishing his job out in Rohnert Park, so I think we have some engineering projects lined-up. I'll be glad to see him not have to go over there for a while. He was coming home pretty cranky some days. I get the sense it was pretty stressful! Well, a million things to do before we head out to the carnival. So we'll see you Dudes and Dudesses later! |

Cherry Fudge |
|||
Ingredients: | |||
2 cups white chocolate chips ¾ cup dried cherries (3 full-sized bars—or use Cherry Mash Candy Bars) |
|
||
Directions: | |||
Line an 8x8 pan with foil. Set aside. Place the white chocolate chips and butter in a saucepan over low-medium heat. Stir until melted. Spoon the frosting into the melted chips. Stir until melted and smooth. Remove from the heat and let cool for 5 minutes. Stir together ¾ cup marshmallows, ½ cup dried cherries, ½ cup pecan pieces, and ½ cup chopped candy bars. Add to the cherry mixture and stir very quickly. Do not stir too much or the chocolate bars will melt. Pour immediately into the prepared pan. Top with the remaining marshmallows, cherries, pecan chips, and chocolate bars. Press these into the top gently. Let cool completely before cutting into 36 squares. Store in a sealed container. |
|||
Stir Fry Shrimp and Broccoli |
|||
Ingredients: | |||
2 pounds shrimp, peeled and deveined 4 teaspoons corn starch 1 tablespoon cooking oil Aromatics 8 green onions, chopped (white and light green parts) 2 garlic cloves, finely minced 2 teaspoons fresh ginger, finely minced or grated Vegetables 24 ounces broccoli florets (about 5 cups) 6-8 sweet mini peppers, sliced 8 ounces sugar snap or snow peas 1 cup salted cashews Sauce 3 tablespoons reduced sodium soy sauce 2 tablespoons oyster sauce 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar 1 tablespoon brown sugar, packed 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 teaspoon sesame oil 1 teaspoon cornstarch 1 teaspoon Sriracha, optional Garnish 1 teaspoon sesame seeds 1 green onion, thinly sliced |
|||
Directions: | |||
Have all ingredients cleaned, chopped, prepped and measured before
beginning to cook. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, ginger, garlic, sesame oil, cornstarch and Sriracha; set aside. Pat the shrimp very dry with paper towels. In a medium bowl, add shrimp and cornstarch and toss to coat. In a wok or large sauté pan over high heat, add 1 tablespoon cooking oil and swirl to coat the bottom of the pan. When the wok is very hot, add the shrimp in a single layer and cook partially until one side is seared brown, about 1 minute. Flip and sear the other side of each shrimp, about one more minute. They don't need to be cooked all the way through yet. Remove them to a plate or bowl and set aside. Turn the heat down to medium and let wok cool off a bit to prevent the aromatics from burning. Add ½ tablespoon cooking oil and add green onion, garlic and ginger and stir fry for a minute until fragrant. Add broccoli and peppers, and cook, stirring frequently, until tender, about 2-3 minutes. Add peas and cashews and stir in soy sauce mixture until well combined and slightly thickened, about 1-2 minutes. Serve immediately, garnished with sesame seeds and green onion, if desired. |

Ketaki sent this in. She says, "I saw it live when it happened and it was so fast. It's too bad she didn't kill it and feed to the owlets. JACTITATION
Pronunciation: \jak-tuh-TAY-shun\
noun
Definition of JACTITATION
a tossing to and fro or jerking and twitching of the body
EXAMPLES
"The effect of the first dose was most fortunate. In about ten minutes after it was swallowed, the jactitation ceased."
— Edward H. Clarke, The Boston Medical and Surgical Journal,
16 June 1870
"It is clear that Mrs Y.'s tics are far more complex in form than mere
Parkinsonian jerks, jactitations, or precipitations...."
— Oliver Sacks, Awakenings, 1973
DID YOU KNOW?
In the 17th century, lawyers began tossing around the word jactitation, which can be traced back to the Latin
verb jactare, meaning "to throw." Originally, jactitation was used as a word for a false claim or assertion being
publicly thrown about to the detriment of another person. Run-of-the-mill slander and false claims of being
married to someone were two common types of jactitation brought to court. Before long, jactitation had jumped
over to the medical profession, where it continues to serve as a word for restless, jerky, or twitchy body movements.
In 1761, British writer Laurence Sterne threw jactitation into his novel Tristram Shandy as a substitute
for discussion, but that meaning never caught on
