Channel Links |
The pop-out chat link no longer uses the old style chat.
However, it is still a nice way to save on memory and be able to refresh
without losing both chat and video. The easiest way to do this is to open the pop-out chat in a browser window. Log in. (Type a period in the chat line—hit enter. This will open the login screen.) Size this chat window to equal about 1/3 of your desktop space. Then open a new window or tab (Ctrl-T or Ctrl-N in most browsers) and use it to open the pop-out video. If you opened a new tab, you can then click on the tab and drag it to an open space on your desktop. Size it to about 2/3 of your desktop space beside the chat. Now you have both open and can refresh one without disturbing the other. You can resize either without resizing the other. I hope this helps. |

Pop-Out |
If you want to view the chat or video in pop-out screens, use the links below. Some find that this places less stress on their computer and/or its memory. |

If you use the pop-out links, it is recommended that you open two browser windows. That way, if one needs to be refreshed, the other is not affected. |

you include your chat name and your pet's name. You can also include
your real name and location if you want to. I've only gotten photos from a few people. (The new page will be posted soon—just waiting on some graphics from TheDude.) Surely more chatters have pets that they'd like to show to the world! |

Vaca Blog |
Hello Vriends, | ||
VacaDude here--just catching my breath. I spent the morning in
the back yard, where I felled my first tree. Okay, so it was a
pretty small tree--about five inches in diameter and thirty feet
tall. But still... It was growing right in front of our
satellite dish and its base was right up against the neighbor's
fence, so if it grew any more, it was going to start destroying
the fence. So I took it out.
It was my first chance to hook up and try out the chainsaw we bought over Memorial Day. We got a small electric saw, and also bought a Little Giant ladder, so now I can finally get some serious tree-trimming done. Taking that tree out was my first step in that direction. It felt good to do this on Father's Day, as I was using techniques I learned when I used a chainsaw for the first time--when I helped my Dad take down our weeping willow tree. Still remembered how to do it, and the tree fell exactly where I wanted it to. Good thing, too--because we had the orange tree five feet to one side, and the south side of the house about five feet to the other side. So I needed to drop that baby right where it landed! I'm in the heart of the fair and festival season. On Thursday I delivered six framed photos to the Napa County fairgrounds in Calistoga, CA. (That made for a lovely drive--it was cloudy and cool, and the hills around Calistoga and St. Helena were lovely and covered in pines...that's a very nice part of the state. Kind of the northern end of the Napa Valley.) Then yesterday I drove to Sacramento to drop off the five matted photos to the Cal Expo grounds for the State Fair. This whole last week I felt I was running a framing shop--I cut eleven mattes and assembled six frames. Now I have a little break before early July when I need to deliver eight framed pieces to the Solano County fair (that's the county Vacaville is in). But I get to use whatever photos don't sell at the Napa Fair for Solano, so I shouldn't have to come up with too many. Basically, I have a bit of a break until July 4th, when we will drive to Calistoga to attend the Fair (and see if I managed to win any ribbons!), and we'll stay for their great fireworks display at night. Then the next day I drive back to Calistoga to pick up the photos. Then on the 8th I need to deliver the framed photos to the Solano County Fair, so I have a couple of days to put those together. Also on the 8th the California State Fair begins. The Solano Fair starts about a week later, so those go on at the same time. I have never been to the State Fair in California, despite having lived here my entire life! And I must say, I'm getting pretty excited about it. They have these season pass deals that look pretty good, so I think I'm going to go for that. With them, you get reserved seats for the horse and harness racing. Mary and I really want to watch some horse racing. Also, I hadn't known it before, but apparently the admission tickets are also good for admission to Raging Waters, the water slide park. That sounds like a terrific way to cool down (Sacramento gets extremely hot in July) while attending the fair. I don't think I have been to a water park since the late 1980s, so I would LOVE to do that! Suddenly July is looking like it is going to be really fun. Well, I have just about caught my breath, so now I need to work my way through the rest of my to-do list. I need to sit down and finish an article I am writing for the local Vacaville magazine about our photography club. I have a first draft--I just need to polish it up! Have a great Father's Day, everyone!! |

returned July 2014 same breast cancer in my lung now and 2 lymph nodes
positive. I’m getting ready to have a surgery to get a port. I will

Littleguys | UPDATE: (as of
10/25/2015)
Amazing what an injection in the right place can accomplish! My back
started really hurting over two years ago, to the point I couldn't
show my horses "in hand" when I would have to walk beside them, etc,
and it was painful to lean over to harness them. I was diagnosed
with sciatica, meaning the hole in the vertebrae where the sciatic
nerve leaves the spine to go to the left leg was filling up with
arthritis.
But the doctors wouldn't fix it in 2014 because the Stage Zero
Breast Cancer was more important. In 2015, cancer free, it was
time to fix the back. I did get that injection for the sciatica
last summer, and some relief, but that doctor told me something
no other doctor had told me. Half of the pain I was experiencing
as I walked, stood, etc was due to the sacroiliac joint where
the spine meets the left side of the pelvis. Got a shot, well,
three right in that joint Thursday and cannot believe how much
better it is to walk and stand. Why couldn't they do that two
years ago??? Not a magic wand, but so much better,

A Message From Zorro | StoryTime News | Recipe of the Week |
Hello there, Everbuddy! | ||
Happy Father's Day to you all! I have honored my daddy
by snacking on some of his favorite cheese--Cabrales.
It's usually a little strong for me, but I had to have
some for today. It was so strong it kind of made my nose
and eyes water. It had to be that--surely I would not be
feeling sentimental about my Pops. Well, maybe just a
little.
Of course, starting on the 4th of July we are going to be doing some real snacking! Time for more yummy corn dogs. I am really enjoying the Dude's entering all these fairs. They have such delicious food! I can't wait to try some really junky foods that come from the deep fryers. It is amazing what folks deep fry these days... Of course after yesterday, I don't think I'll be able to eat for a while. You see, the Dude and Dudette were going to the anniversary party for the LightWriters photography club. So the Dude made his roll-ups and put out the salsa for dipping. Oh, those are so yummy! So they went over to the house where the party was to be, and it looked like nobody was home. So the Dude pulled out his phone to double-check the date, and it turns out it was next weekend! Luckily nobody was home, or he would have been REALLY embarrassed. And the nice thing is, we sat around last night and ate about half the roll-ups and watched the Coen Brothers' movie "Hail, Caesar." It was a good evening, and the Dude will just have to make another batch of them next week! Well, it is time for this busy-body mouse to get busy! I'll talk with all you guys next week! |

Apricot Chicken Tacos |
|||
Ingredients: | |||
Apricot Chicken |
|
||
Directions: | |||
Spray 6-quart slow cooker with
cooking spray. Add Apricot Chicken ingredients to slow cooker. Cover;
cook on Low heat setting 6 to 8 hours or until chicken is falling apart.
|
|||
Sex In a Pan |
|||
Ingredients: | |||
36 Oreo cookies (regular, not double stuff)
|
|||
Directions: | |||
In food processor, finely crush Oreo cookies into fine crumbs. In a
large bowl, using a fork mix crushed Oreos with melted butter. Transfer
it to a 9 x 13 inch dish and press down the crumbs into the bottom. Set
in the refrigerator while you are making the fillings. Whip the cream cheese until it's fluffy, add 2 tablespoons of milk and sugar, and mix well. Stir in 1¼ cups Cool Whip and spread the mixture over the crust, transfer to refrigerator. In a large sauce pan combine raspberries with ¾ cup sugar, raspberry preserves and dissolved gelatin and cook for 15 minutes (bring to boil than reduce the heat and continue cooking, stirring constantly) . Set aside to cool, then spread over the cream cheese layer and transfer to the freezer for at least 30 minutes. In a medium bowl, mix vanilla instant pudding with 3 cups cold milk. Whisk for a few minutes until the pudding starts to thicken. Spread the pudding over the raspberry layer. Let it sit in the fridge for 10 minutes to firm up the pudding. Break chocolate into coarse pieces and place in a heat-proof bowl. Microwave heavy whipping cream until almost boiling (30-60 seconds). Pour over chocolate. Cover and let stand for 5 minutes. Stir until smooth. Spread it over the vanilla pudding layer. Sprinkle with coarse sea salt, if desired. Set in the fridge for 10 minutes. Spread remaining Cool Whip over the top and sprinkle with crushed Oreos. Freeze for 1 hour, or refrigerate for 4 hours before serving |

MacGuffin
Pronunciation: \muh-GUFF-in\
noun
Definition of MacGuffin
an object, event, or character in a film or story that serves to set and keep the
plot in motion despite usually lacking intrinsic importance
EXAMPLES
The missing document is the MacGuffin that brings the two main characters together,
but the real story centers on their tumultuous relationship.
"The story opens … at the funeral of elderly Oleander Gardener…. The childless
Oleander has
several nieces and nephews…. Questions of inheritance and a mysterious seed pod that each of her
heirs receives constitute the framework of a tenuous plot, but these are primarily MacGuffins."
— The Publisher's Weekly Review, 14 Mar. 2016
DID YOU KNOW?
The first person to use MacGuffin as a word for a plot device was Alfred Hitchcock. He borrowed
it from an old shaggy-dog story in which some passengers on a train interrogate a fellow passenger
carrying a large, strange-looking package. The fellow says the package contains a "MacGuffin," which,
he explains, is used to catch tigers in the Scottish Highlands. When the group protests that there are no
tigers in the Highlands, the passenger replies, "Well, then, this must not be a MacGuffin." Hitchcock
apparently appreciated the way the mysterious package holds the audience's attention and builds
suspense. He recognized that an audience anticipating a solution to a mystery will continue to follow
the story even if the initial
interest-grabber turns out to be irrelevant.
