The pop-out chat link no longer uses the old style chat.
However, it is still a nice way to save on memory and be able to refresh
without losing both chat and video. The easiest way to do this is to open the pop-out chat in a browser window. Log in. (Type a period in the chat line—hit enter. This will open the login screen.) Size this chat window to equal about 1/3 of your desktop space. Then open a new window or tab (Ctrl-T or Ctrl-N in most browsers) and use it to open the pop-out video. If you opened a new tab, you can then click on the tab and drag it to an open space on your desktop. Size it to about 2/3 of your desktop space beside the chat. Now you have both open and can refresh one without disturbing the other. You can resize either without resizing the other. I hope this helps. |

Pop-Out |
If you want to view the chat or video in pop-out screens, use the links below. Some find that this places less stress on their computer and/or its memory. |

If you use the pop-out links, it is recommended that you open two browser windows. That way, if one needs to be refreshed, the other is not affected. |

featuring all our animal family members. Send them to

you include your chat name and your pet's name. You can also include
your real name and location if you want to. I've only gotten photos from a few people. (The new page will be posted soon—just waiting on some graphics from TheDude.) Surely more chatters have pets that they'd like to show to the world! |

Vaca Blog |
Hello Vriends, | ||
Another week has gone by, and for me--what a week! This was the
final push for the EMC OpenStack video. It started out as an
innocent little project to create a video that would play on a
video wall at a OpenStack trade show in Japan. In the end it was
ME--trying to create a full minute of video with very elaborate
3D scenes and having a gun to my head because it was not going
fast enough. In the end, I delivered a good video only a few
hours late. However my takeaway was to be reminded why I tended
to shy away from doing 3D-heavy projects for the last few years.
Those all-nighter work sessions take much higher a toll on me
than they used to! Friday I delivered the files and then
collapsed into a sleep coma until late Saturday morning.
The problem is there is a complete lack of understanding in the broadcast video industry about CG (aka 3D) graphics. I have often threatened to create a seminar called "CGI for Producers" to help educate clients and production staff about the process, so that they don't make the kind of ruinous decisions I always see on projects like these. The problem these days is that CGI is so ubiquitous, and it is of such high quality, that most people forget or don't know how difficult it is to produce. So they tend to think of CGI footage in the same way as any old video that they might have shot on their cell phone--it has the same weight in their mind. So much of the work is done up front--the building of the 3D models. A good 3D model is what really makes or breaks your end result. Well, on Monday of last week (three days before the video was due) the client said they didn't like the car model I was using. He asked for a completely different model. This after I had spent the entire previous week preparing the model I had. So they forced this new model on me three days before the due date, and it was horrible. Poorly constructed, the textures were either really bad or flat-out didn't exist. So yes, the video suffered. I suffered. There was much suffering. And in the future, if I do more CGI work, I am going to have to be more assertive about making sure all changes get locked in early. But enough about that. What else is up? Space! Space is up. Did you hear about this interesting star found by the Kepler space telescope? That is the scope that was designed to look for exoplanets, or planets orbiting around stars other than our own. It watches a bunch of stars and keeps track of the light coming from them. If the light levels dip and do so in regular patterns, that is an indication that a planet is passing between that star and the telescope. The exciting finding a couple months ago is that just about every star we see at night has planets of some kind orbiting around it. But then there was this one star--KIC 8462852. Its light pattern is so bizarre that nobody can figure out what could be causing it. The light of the star dims for long periods of time--too long for any kind of natural, orbiting body. This has led some scientists to speculate about an advanced race that may have constructed some kind of megastructure around the star--presumably to capture energy from it directly. I mean, just think--if we could capture all the energy from our Sun for just one second, we would have enough energy to last a half a million years (at our current rate of consumption). So that's what has got the astronomy community all abuzz these days. So what have I got coming up next week? Well, tomorrow I have my stress test for my physical exam. (Heck, if they had wanted to test me at stressful levels, they should have hooked up the EKG this last Friday!) Then I am at the onset of a new project with the same studio this EMC project was with. Hopefully I do not get a repeat of that last experience. And aside from that, I am hoping to find a day I can grab my cameras and drive back out to Folsom Lake on the other side of Sacramento. The lake levels have dropped below what they were in January 2014, when VacaSis and I went hiking out there. The day we were there, it was pouring down rain. I'd like to find a day it is clear and sunny and see if I can find some more artifacts and foundations of buildings for the old town of Mormon Island (covered when they filled the reservoir). But tonight we are heading to San Francisco to enjoy dinner and movie night with friends. He is an avid film buff, and tonight's theme is going to be film noir. All that yummy black & white photography! This should be vun. So until later, have a great week everyone! |

Not only that, but the latest update on my laptop won't even let me download pix. Almost as much fun as ustream. ChatterChopz | CC has reached the end of another very successful and exceedingly fun birthday season (except for that one little mishap while leaving Minneapolis). Yesterday was the annual party that she holds each year, mostly for the very special little ones in her life. This year, she hosted about 15 at her karate dojo. Guests ranged in age from 15 months to 83 years. It was an incredible gathering and so much fun. (But, like crazy people, Mom and Dad forgot the camera so we don't have much of a record of it.) We're going to try to get photos from some who attended.

returned July 2014 same breast cancer in my lung now and 2 lymph nodes
positive. I’m getting ready to have a surgery to get a port. I will
probably be on chemo for life. I have numerous tests monthly. Thank you so much for the prayers and please continue." |

Littleguys | UPDATE:
We received this from Littleguys this week: I
am recuperating from a minor thing, but wanted to share with you folks,
especially those of you that know I have not been able to show my horses
"in hand" for over two years. I have sciatica. That is the sciatic nerve
causing trouble. In my case, the hole in the vertebra that the sciatic
nerve goes through was filling up with arthritis. Knee and hip joints
are fine, though I have been limping as if they bothered me. I wanted to
take care of it over a year ago when the MRI showed us what the actual
problem was, but the doctors INSISTED on taking care of the Stage Zero
Breast Cancer last year instead. (Cancer is gone and since it was Stage
Zero, never had to do chemo) Finally, last Thursday morning, I went to Kaiser and got some shots "in the right place." Camera and all. Good friends of mine insisted I stay at their place so they could make sure I followed instructions, take it easy, don't bend down, lean over, feed my horses, trim trees, etc. Yep, you country girls know what I mean. And I got to watch their Direct TV with the RFD channel. That was icing on the cake. By the afternoon after the 6:30 am procedure, for the first time in over six months…after sitting or laying down, I did NOT have to first stand and steady myself and then have 5 - 10 painful steps. That alone was worth the procedure, that I can now stand and walk normally. |

A Message From Zorro | StoryTime News | StoryTime Archive | Recipe of the Week |
Hello there, Everbuddy!
Zorro the Mouse, here. It sure is nice to have the Dude
back with us! He was working so hard last week, and we
never saw him because he was locked in his office all
week...all hours of the night! He never came out to
cook, so we had to get and prepare mostly flatfoods.
Those are meals that are short enough that we could just
slide them under the door. Fortunately, sometimes that
meant pizza! Of course, one of the other things was not
so good, and that is American cheese slices. I mean,
those are great, but the problem for me is that I could
never convince myself to part with the cheese slices
once I got them to the Dude's door. Just knowing that
once I slid that yummy slice of cheese under the door, I
would never see it again. It was all so very stressful.
Luckily, I thought of a solution. I got Vobble to help me with a little Krafts project. (Get it? Krafts project? Kraft makes American cheese slices? Ahem...) We cut up a bunch of cardboard into squares and painted them yellow. That way, I could keep the yummy cheese and the Dude could eat the cardboard. I never heard any complaints, so I think he was too busy to notice the switch. Well, time waits for no mouse, so I had better be going. (I'm not sure what that means, but I'm just going along for the ride...) Good weeking to you all! |

Apple Pudding Cake |
|||
Ingredients: | |||
4 apples, peeled and sliced |
|||
Directions: | |||
Preheat oven to 400° F. In a deep 9x9-inch pan, mix together the sugar, flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Add the apple slices and mix until coated with the flour mixture. Add the milk that has been mixed with the vanilla or almond flavoring. Stir until everything has been moistened. Smooth out the top. Dot the butter on top. Sprinkle with slivered almonds. Put on rack in oven and carefully pour the 2 cups of boiling water over the top. DO NOT STIR. (Put a baking sheet on the rack under your pan. Sometimes it bubbles over when it's baking.) Here are a couple of photos that I took yesterday. It is the trunk of a eucalyptus tree--I had no
idea they would display so many colors like that! And I swear in the vertical one, the surface
looks like paintbrush stokes--like Van Gogh's "The Starry Night." That same kind of impasto technique...
I just thought it looked very pretty.

WADDY
Pronunciation: \WAH-dee\
noun
Definition of WADDY
cowboy
EXAMPLES
"One of the waddies, a young, long-faced kid in an oversized black hat, held Renegade's reins
up close to the bridle and was running a soothing hand down the skewbald's stout neck."
— Peter Brandvold, .45 Caliber Firebrand, 2009
"There is always an Old West gunfight re-enactment to watch, a nightly rodeo to
attend,
and waddies on horseback to witness strolling into downtown, tying their steed to a hitching post
at the historic Irma Hotel—named after Buffalo Bill's daughter—and enjoying an after-work beverage and dinner."
— Michael Johnson, Alamogordo (New Mexico) Daily News, May 26, 2012
DID YOU KNOW?
It's easier to rope a wild mustang than to round up the origin of waddy.
Some folks claim it comes from wadding (the material used in stuffing or padding) because waddies were
once extra hands hired to fill in when extra cowhands were needed. But other evidence suggests that waddy
originally referred to a cattle rustler, a usage that wouldn't support the wadding theory. There is also an
Australian waddy meaning "stick" or "club," but definitive evidence of a connection between the Australian
and American words remains elusive. All researchers can say with certainty is that waddy has
been used to refer to a cowboy since at least the late 19th century.
Unscramble the letters to create a synonym of waddy:
WKOEOPC.
The answer is …
cowpoke
