The pop-out chat link still uses the old style chat.
If you do not like the changes Ustream has made to chat, use the pop-out
link. The easiest way to do this is to open the pop-out chat in a browser window. Log in. (Type a period in the chat line—hit enter. This will open the login screen.) Size this chat window to equal about 1/3 of your desktop space. Then open a new window or tab (Ctrl-T or Ctrl-N in most browsers) and use it to open the pop-out video. If you opened a new tab, you can then click on the tab and drag it to an open space on your desktop. Size it to about 2/3 of your desktop space beside the chat. Now you have both open and can refresh one without disturbing the other. You can resize either without resizing the other. I hope this helps. |

Pop-Out |
If you want to view the chat or video in pop-out screens, use the links below. Some find that this places less stress on their computer and/or its memory. |

If you use the pop-out links, it is recommended that you open two browser windows. That way, if one needs to be refreshed, the other is not affected. |

Vaca Blog |
Hello Vriends, | ||
I hope you are all
enjoying your weekend. It has been a busy one here, as I went
from zero to three work projects all of a sudden. So I am having
to work on two of those over the weekend. One is a very quick
project--just through Wednesday. It was one where the artist
they had lined up for it had to pull-out at the last minute. So
it dropped in my lap late Friday evening.
What a week it has been for the planet Earth! It seems like we had Earth Day, and then all heck broke loose. Fairly large quake in New Zealand, then another big one off the coast of British Columbia. Before those, there was the big volcanic eruption in Chile...first time that mountain had erupted in almost 50 years. I tend to adhere to the theory that volcanic eruptions can trigger Earthquakes in other parts of the world. But then yesterday was the mother of them all--in Nepal. It is just sickening to see the damage and loss of life that is in the news out of Kathmandu. Even Everest was shaken to the point of triggering deadly avalanches. Of course, all we are seeing is a continuation of the process that made Everest the tallest peak in the world (and it is still rising). It's one huge landmass (the Indian tectonic plate) colliding into another landmass (the Eurasian plate), which gives us the Himalayas, and also gives us a region where a lot of stresses build up in the land. On a lighter note, but still in the theme of Earth, I saw where one of the two astronauts who is doing the year-long stint on the space station, Scott Kelly, has launched a geography quiz. Every Wednesday, he is going to release on Twitter a photograph of someplace on Earth, along with a written clue. The first person who identifies the location wins a hardcopy print of the photo with Scott Kelly's autograph on it (delivered sometime after he gets back to Earth). I guess I know what I will be doing with my Wednesday afternoons for the next year! I always love it when the astronauts issue a challenge like that--time to whip out the old Google Earth! Well, it's back to the After Effects I go--need to make two presentations for tomorrow morning, and they aren't completing themselves. Cheers, VacaDude P.S. Next Sunday the 3rd I am going to be out helping a good friend of mine and Mary's celebrate a milestone birthday. So the next VacaChat is going to be a special Mother's Day chat on the 10th! Same time--6pm PDT. The writing for the StoryTime will still be next week--on the afternoon of the 3rd. So please come on by and join the Storytime vun, and then tune in on May 10th for the reading! |

Cheers, VacaDude | ||

Sharoot | Sharoot's featured pictures can be found
at the end of each newsletter, under Photos of the
Week. She says that since they are located at the end, then "Sharoot's

ChocoMare |
Ruthrings sent us this news on March 28: "I
don't know which of you have Susan [ChocoMare]on Facebook, but you may
know her husband was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia several months
ago. I would guess he's only in his 50s. She went home from work
Thursday and he was coughing terribly and so confused he could hardly
open the door. They finally went to the ER and it's downhill from there.
. low sodium, dehydration, then seizures, then ICU, and now comfort
treatment only and Hospice!!! I feel so bad for her!!! Please pray for a
peaceful conclusion for both David and Susan." And then we received this news on March 29: "David died overnight, but this is what Susan posted on Facebook a few minutes earlier. Wow! I don't know why God hasn't released his body yet....but perhaps there is just one here in this ICU who needs to see that we, who are in the Lord, do not grieve as those who have no hope. We grieve with THE Hope, The Blessed Assurance that one day, when our tent is folded, we will see Him face to face. And just maybe they'll ask, "How...tell me how you have joy despite the tears?" And I can smile thru those years and say "May I introduce you to my Lord?" |
||
KSBorn | KSBorn was in regression for lymphoma and breast cancer. It has since returned and she's going for Chemo now. She and her doctors are attacking it vigorously and she needs our prayers. She needs our prayers for healing, for the Lord to guide her doctors, and for the peace and strength as she undergoes the treatment.
VacaDude and his cousin, Kevin | UPDATE: WONDERFUL NEWS!!!!! "Our family got some news this last week from my cousin Kevin, and it was wonderful: the latest tests show that he is in full remission!! So I'd like to thank you all for your thoughts and prayers; it meant a lot to me and to Kevin. If you could extend a few of those prayers to his mother Irene, I would really appreciate it. In a cruel twist of fate, Kevin's mom was diagnosed with lymphoma--very similar to Kevin's--that was located in her abdomen. Last I heard, she was responding well to the chemo. Apparently it made for some lively chemo treatment sessions--mother and son in together! They have always been a fun family, and I really hope Irene pulls through as well."
TheDaddyBird, | TDB is home! He is doing great! All the
doctors and nurses are thrilled and amazed at his progress. (One doc
said TDB will be their new poster boy.) He's still got a ways to go in
his recovery, but being home will help a lot. CC has appointed herself his personal home health nurse. I am VERY proud of her. |
||
Marilyn Crabb | UPDATE:
Hi! I survived six months of chemotherapy. I'll have my breast
tumor and left axillary nodes removed on Friday, Feb. 13. Radiation will
be next. Please pray that the surgeon does a good job and all my cancer
is removed! My screen name was/is MarilynLA on UStream. (Marilyn from Los Angeles) |
||
Littleguys | UPDATE:
The latest news from Littleguys:
I have been limping a lot over the past two years. Pinched
nerve. Over a year ago, I put my foot down and insisted we
find out why. Not the joints. X-ray, then MRI showed that
the discs that I slipped years ago, one is flat and the
other bulging, plus I have the "not unexpected" arthritis in
the vertebrae where the nerves come out of the spinal column
and go down the leg. Taking care of it all got delayed.
The doctors wanted to treat the Breast Cancer first, even if
it were only Stage Zero since, as they put it, cancer can
kill and pinched nerves won't. Caused weight gain, since I
can't walk as much as I used to...LOL
Anyway, finally got to go back to the doctor about my back. Three options. First one, surgery, no one wants. Second is to inject something, I think it was a type of cortisone. Third option, I start tonight, taking a pill every night that is supposed to calm down the excited / inflamed, screaming nerves.
Keep your fingers crossed, and prayers coming. I really
need to be able to get out and walk more to get rid of this
weight, and show my horses in halter classes.

Elsalynda | Keep Elsalynda in your prayers as she struggles with health, computer and weather related issues.
GentleDoe | Please pray for me, my house, Section 8 assistance &
a resolution to this situation. My sister has POA for my father now. My
mother had it until my sister had him sign it over to her prior to her
taking him out of the assistive living home & into her home. (She now
owns half her home & dad the other half.) Dad had my home & my parent's
home put in his name alone, now my sister has POA. She has threatened to
put mom in a home & she wants me out of both the house I rented from my
father & my parent's house. I need a house to be able to keep my birds. While my birds are usually quiet, if anything disturbs them they can be quite loud. My 5 birds & 2 bunnies are the only family I have other than my human family. My mother & I have not been able to see or speak to my father since August of last year, 2014. My mother wakes up calling for my father. This is taking its toll on my mother's already fragile health. My health is also struggling but I cannot allow it to be known because I am the only one to stay & care for my mother. My mother would not last long in a home with little if ay visitation. Thank you all of the Vacafamily and Vriends for the prayers. Hope to get to check in for a few minutes, I've just recently got the internet again. |

Recipe of the Week |
A Message from Zorro |
Hello there, Everbuddy!
Zorro the Mouse, here. Well, it has been kind of quiet
in the Dude's workshop this week. I guess he needs to
make money for all the bills and stuff, but I sure do
wish he would finish my mousie bachelor apartment! (I
know he calls it a Acetone Vapor Chamber, but I know
better.) I can't wait to get the windows installed, and
then I'll be able to relax with stunning views of the
backyard. It has a fan inside so as to keep the
Passendale cheese at just the perfect temperature. Just
think--my own pantry! I think the Dude is just going to
have to bathe his acetone thingies somewhere else--I'm
claiming this apartment.
I'm a little sore today, because yesterday I was helping the Dude with his apple tree. We had some big winds here last week, and part of the apple tree broke off--a big branch came down. So we were chopping it up and putting whatever we could into the greens barrel. I tried to channel some energy from my cousins in the woods, but I am finding I am no beaver. I tried gnawing through one little branch, and it took me most of the day. The Dude had much better luck with his handsaw. I'll stick to nibbling on the softer stuff, like Havarti! Well, I am off to see what kind of mischief I can get into... |

Honey Raspberry Chicken Skewers |
|||
Ingredients | |||
4 boneless chicken breasts, cut into 2-3" cubes {leave
the seeds for more heat}
|
|||
Directions | |||
Salt and pepper the chicken and place in a large
Ziploc bag. Combine all the marinade ingredients and whisk well. Pour over the seasoned chicken breasts. Seal and refrigerate for 8 hours minimum (overnight is best). To make the glaze whisk the jam and honey in a bowl. When you are ready to grill set your coals or gas to a medium high heat. Thread the chicken onto skewers. (If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 30 minutes first.) Cook over direct heat 8 minutes per side, with the grill lid open. Brush the glaze on the meat. Move the meat to indirect heat with the lid closed and cook for 5 minutes. Turn and glaze the other side and close lid and cook for 5 more min or until done Remove from heat |
|||
Loose Meat Sandwiches |
|||
Ingredients: | |||
3 pounds LEAN ground beef |
|||
Ingredients: | |||
Put beef and onion in large skillet along with
water. Chop up beef really, really fine while bringing it to a low boil
over medium high heat. Cook, stirring and chopping often, until no
longer pink. Add everything else and continue lightly boiling, stirring often, until water is cooked down and mixture gets thick. Strain beef out and press small mounds of beef onto cut Hawaiian sweet rolls*. Top with your choice of condiments. Makes enough for 24 little sandwiches, which is one pack of Hawaiian rolls. Leftovers freeze well. *Do NOT try and go cheap and use hamburger buns. They will fall to peices. |

From the Dude
One of the Dude's bee photos
"I've been trying for three days, and that was from this morning.
I learned a bit about bees in the process--they don't like to hover in the sun
(probably overheat), but they will do it more in the early morning.
So I went out this morning so when the sun was shining, but the air was still cool.
Then they were a bit more likely to hover over the flowers."
Sharoot's Caboose
Sharoot shares,
"Migration time is here. These two birds spend only a few days with us as they stop by to
check out the fare at the Coughlin Birdie Bistro Cafe. The first is a Rose Breasted Grosbeak
of which we have at least three, and the second picture features a Painted Bunting.
We saw both of these birds today. Yay!"

Zorro's Word of the Week |
AILUROPHILE
Pronunciation: \eye-LOOR-uh-fyle\
noun
Definition of AILUROPHILE
a cat fancier; a lover of cats
EXAMPLES
Ailurophiles, young and old, are sure to love the art museum's new exhibit featuring
paintings and photographs of felines, ranging from tabbies
to man-eaters.
"Yes, it's book one of a series…. And yes, the primary villain is a cat, whereas
I'm
an unashamed ailurophile. … But none of that mattered when I closed the back cover—
I just wanted more, more, more."
— Katie Ward Beim-Esche, Christian Science Monitor, December 30, 2014
DID YOU KNOW?
Although the word ailurophile has only been documented in English since the early 1900s,
ailurophiles have been around for thousands of years. The ancient Egyptians were perhaps
history's greatest cat lovers, pampering and adorning felines, honoring them in art, even
treating them as gods. But the English word ailurophile does not descend from Egyptian; rather,
it comes from a combination of the Greek word ailouros, which means "cat," and the suffix -phile,
meaning "lover." If Egyptian cat-loving sentiments leave you cold and you're more sympathetic to
medieval Europeans who regarded cats as wicked agents of evil, you might prefer the word
ailurophobe (from ailouros plus -phobe, meaning "fearing or averse to").
That's a fancy name for someone who hates or fears cats.
Test Your Vocabulary: What would a mycophile be fond of? The answer is …
