The pop-out chat link still uses the old style chat.
If you do not like the changes Ustream has made to chat, use the pop-out
link. The easiest way to do this is to open the pop-out chat in a browser window. Log in. (Type a period in the chat line—hit enter. This will open the login screen.) Size this chat window to equal about 1/3 of your desktop space. Then open a new window or tab (Ctrl-T or Ctrl-N in most browsers) and use it to open the pop-out video. If you opened a new tab, you can then click on the tab and drag it to an open space on your desktop. Size it to about 2/3 of your desktop space beside the chat. Now you have both open and can refresh one without disturbing the other. You can resize either without resizing the other. I hope this helps. |

Pop-Out |
If you want to view the chat or video in pop-out screens, use the links below. Some find that this places less stress on their computer and/or its memory. |

If you use the pop-out links, it is recommended that you open two browser windows. That way, if one needs to be refreshed, the other is not affected. |

A Note from the Dude | Chatter News |
Prayer Requests |
Vaca Blog |
Hello Vriends, | ||
Happy Sunday to everyone! I hope you had a nice Easter. We
definitely had a nice weekend, and made some roast beef that we
spent the week consuming through its various forms (ending with
some hash--yum!) I also think I set a record for most religious
movies watched by me in a single day--at four. Ended with the 10
Commandments. I think my Heston Dosimeter imploded from the
strain. :)
Happy 34th anniversary of the Space Shuttle program! It was on this day in 1981 that the first shuttle mission (STS-1) took off, when Columbia lifted off. I always get goosebumps watching replays of that countdown and liftoff. There was that immortal call of "roger, Columbia--you're looking a little hot, and all your calls will be a little early." Which of course, is NASA-speak for saying "WOW! Your spacecraft has got a little more power than we even anticipated!" That's the kind of surprise you WANT to see when launching a brand new vehicle. Things have been busy here--mostly in the work arena. I've picked up a couple of new projects, so I have been in a series of meetings this week. On the 3D front, we seem to have a little problem in that XYZprinting has not responded to any of my e-mails this week, despite the fact that I was supposed to have begun my loaner period last Monday. I am going to try again tomorrow to contact them, but I'm still without a machine. I will be sure to get them to agree to an extension on the loaner period so that I get the full four weeks. I don't know what the hold-up is on their end, given that nobody is willing to talk to me... I am using the time to finish working on my vapor chamber. I hope to have that up and running by the time the new loaner gets here. That way I can have models soaking while others are printing--all while I'm cranking out work projects. I think I have identified my next sewing project--to be completed sometime before the cold returns in the late fall. I saw the first episode of "Wolf Hall" on PBS last week, which is the story of Thomas Cromwell (advisor to King Henry the VIII). He was wearing a cloak that I just thought looked so awesome. I think it is time for men to start wearing cloaks again, and I plan to lead the charge! Aside from all the other benefits, they certainly help to conceal a multitude of sins (especially after holiday meals!) Well, tonight is a VacaChat, so I hope you all can make it at 6pm PDT on Ustream. Hopefully Ustream will behave itself tonight! I'll have to see if I can remember how to work the controls and all that. Be sure to stop by the channel at 3pm this afternoon, so you can help write the StoryTime story: "Zorro as the Easter Bunny?" Hope to see you then! |

Cheers, VacaDude | ||

ChocoMare |
Ruthrings sent us this news on March 28: "I
don't know which of you have Susan [ChocoMare]on Facebook, but you may
know her husband was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia several months
ago. I would guess he's only in his 50s. She went home from work
Thursday and he was coughing terribly and so confused he could hardly
open the door. They finally went to the ER and it's downhill from there.
. low sodium, dehydration, then seizures, then ICU, and now comfort
treatment only and Hospice!!! I feel so bad for her!!! Please pray for a
peaceful conclusion for both David and Susan." And then we received this news on March 29: "David died overnight, but this is what Susan posted on Facebook a few minutes earlier. Wow! I don't know why God hasn't released his body yet....but perhaps there is just one here in this ICU who needs to see that we, who are in the Lord, do not grieve as those who have no hope. We grieve with THE Hope, The Blessed Assurance that one day, when our tent is folded, we will see Him face to face. And just maybe they'll ask, "How...tell me how you have joy despite the tears?" And I can smile thru those years and say "May I introduce you to my Lord?" |
||
KSBorn | KSBorn was in regression for lymphoma and breast cancer. It has since returned and she's going for Chemo now. She and her doctors are attacking it vigorously and she needs our prayers. She needs our prayers for healing, for the Lord to guide her doctors, and for the peace and strength as she undergoes the treatment.
VacaDude and his cousin, Kevin | UPDATE: WONDERFUL NEWS!!!!! "Our family got some news this last week from my cousin Kevin, and it was wonderful: the latest tests show that he is in full remission!! So I'd like to thank you all for your thoughts and prayers; it meant a lot to me and to Kevin. If you could extend a few of those prayers to his mother Irene, I would really appreciate it. In a cruel twist of fate, Kevin's mom was diagnosed with lymphoma--very similar to Kevin's--that was located in her abdomen. Last I heard, she was responding well to the chemo. Apparently it made for some lively chemo treatment sessions--mother and son in together! They have always been a fun family, and I really hope Irene pulls through as well."
TheDaddyBird, | TDB is now in the rehab facility.
Believe it or not, he didn't qualify for the rehab we WANTED him to
get—he was doing too well! After a rocky start at the facility he did
qualify for, he's doing much better. He's receiving physical therapy
(for the hip), cardio therapy (for the bypass) and pulmonary therapy
(for his COPD). It's all a delicate balancing act. The physical therapy
taxes his lungs which makes him short of breath which raises his heart
rate which taxes his heart. They're trying to keep everything at an even
keel, but still get the therapy he needs. Please keep him in your
prayers. It's possible he'll be able to come home this week, but we're
not sure. We're working to schedule a consult with his pulmonologist
this week. CC has been a real trooper and a big help through all of this. I am VERY proud of her. |
||
Marilyn Crabb | UPDATE:
Hi! I survived six months of chemotherapy. I'll have my breast
tumor and left axillary nodes removed on Friday, Feb. 13. Radiation will
be next. Please pray that the surgeon does a good job and all my cancer
is removed! My screen name was/is MarilynLA on UStream. (Marilyn from Los Angeles) |
||
Littleguys | UPDATE:
The latest news from Littleguys:
I have been limping a lot over the past two years. Pinched
nerve. Over a year ago, I put my foot down and insisted we
find out why. Not the joints. X-ray, then MRI showed that
the discs that I slipped years ago, one is flat and the
other bulging, plus I have the "not unexpected" arthritis in
the vertebrae where the nerves come out of the spinal column
and go down the leg. Taking care of it all got delayed.
The doctors wanted to treat the Breast Cancer first, even if
it were only Stage Zero since, as they put it, cancer can
kill and pinched nerves won't. Caused weight gain, since I
can't walk as much as I used to...LOL
Anyway, finally got to go back to the doctor about my back. Three options. First one, surgery, no one wants. Second is to inject something, I think it was a type of cortisone. Third option, I start tonight, taking a pill every night that is supposed to calm down the excited / inflamed, screaming nerves.
Keep your fingers crossed, and prayers coming. I really
need to be able to get out and walk more to get rid of this
weight, and show my horses in halter classes.

Caboval | Joey has gone to the Rainbow Bridge. Please keep Caboval in your prayers.
Elsalynda | Keep Elsalynda in your prayers as she struggles with health, computer and weather related issues.
GentleDoe | Please pray for me, my house, Section 8 assistance &
a resolution to this situation. My sister has POA for my father now. My
mother had it until my sister had him sign it over to her prior to her
taking him out of the assistive living home & into her home. (She now
owns half her home & dad the other half.) Dad had my home & my parent's
home put in his name alone, now my sister has POA. She has threatened to
put mom in a home & she wants me out of both the house I rented from my
father & my parent's house. I need a house to be able to keep my birds. While my birds are usually quiet, if anything disturbs them they can be quite loud. My 5 birds & 2 bunnies are the only family I have other than my human family. My mother & I have not been able to see or speak to my father since August of last year, 2014. My mother wakes up calling for my father. This is taking its toll on my mother's already fragile health. My health is also struggling but I cannot allow it to be known because I am the only one to stay & care for my mother. My mother would not last long in a home with little if ay visitation. Thank you all of the Vacafamily and Vriends for the prayers. Hope to get to check in for a few minutes, I've just recently got the internet again. |

A Message from Zorro |
Hello there, Everbuddy!
Zorro the Mouse here, and happy StoryTime day! I always
love it when the stories are about me, and today I get
to do my impersonation of the Easter Bunny. Actually,
they don't make a lot of noise (unless they are in
distress), so this particular impersonation should be a
breeze!
I think the Dude was going to make some ears for me on the 3D printer, but alas--those folks at the manufacturers have not sent the new printer. I'm suspecting I may be getting ear made of paper or something. All I can say is, if the Dude is going to make himself a cloak, he sure as heck had better make ME one too! I mean, come ON--I'm Zorro! Why don't I already have a cloak??? What's that?? Yeah? Oh, that's right. Okay, Patrick just reminded me that I did have a cloak from back a few Halloweenies ago where I got a long cloak for a Dracula costume. I guess we can go with that one for the time being. Maybe a Dracula cloak along with some Easter bunny ears? That would be interesting... Well, got a long day ahead and need to spend it getting ready for the show tonight. So hope to see you all there! |

Easy Pork Chops and Rice |
|||
Ingredients | |||
8-10 pork
chops
|
|||
Directions | |||
Place chops in baking dish. Sprinkle garlic and onion powders and pepper over them. Sprinkle rice over, under, and between chops. Pour broth over rice and chops. Cover and bake 400° for 1 hour. Garnish with fresh herbs. *I prefer to use beef base. ** We usually use chives or parsley.
|
|||
Pineapple Pretzel Salad |
|||
Ingredients: | |||
1˝ cups pretzel sticks (broken in half or into small
pieces) |
|||
Ingredients: | |||
Preheat oven to 400°F. In a large mixing bowl add pretzel sticks, melted
butter and sugar together. Stir until pretzels are well coated. Pour mixture onto foil-lined baking pan. Bake the pretzels about 8 minutes, checking to make sure they're not getting over done. (The sugar/butter mixture will bubble up over the pretzels). Remove from oven; pour onto another sheet of foil and spread out to cool, making sure they're not sticking together. Set aside until salad is ready to serve. In a large mixing bowl, beat cream cheese and powdered sugar together using an electric mixer. Add pineapple and stir until combined. Fold in the whipped topping. Just before serving mix half the candied pretzels into salad; top with remaining pretzels. |

Bernice was terribly overweight, so her doctor put
her on a diet. "I want you to eat regularly for 2 days, then skip a day, and repeat this procedure for 2 weeks. The next time I see you, you'll have lost at least 5 pounds." When she returned, Bernice shocked the doctor by losing nearly 20 pounds. "Why, that's amazing!" the doctor said, "Did you follow my instructions?" Bernice nodded. "I'll tell you though, I thought I was going to drop dead that third day." "From hunger, you mean?" "No, from skipping all day." |

Zorro's Word of the Week |
THRENODY
Pronunciation: \THREN-uh-dee\
noun
Definition of THRENODY
a song of lamentation for the dead : elegy
EXAMPLES
Christina wrote the poem as a threnody for her grandmother,
who had died the previous spring.
"Ian Hobson will lead the Sinfonia strings in Strauss' 'Metamorphosen,' his
threnody on the destruction
of German musical monuments at the end of World War II."
— John Frayne, The News-Gazette (Champaign, Illinois), September 11, 2014
DID YOU KNOW?
Threnody encompasses all genres. There are great threnodies in prose (such as the lines from Charles Dickens’ Bleak House
upon the death of Little Jo: "Dead, your Majesty. Dead, my lords and gentlemen. Dead…."),
in poetry (as in W. H. Auden’s "Funeral Blues":
"The stars are not wanted now: put out every one,
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun…."),
and in music (Giovanni Pergolesi’s "Stabat Mater," for one).
Threnody, which we borrowed from the Greek word thrēnōidia (from thrēnos, the word for "dirge"),
has survived in English since the early 1600s. Melody, tragedy, and comedy are related to threnody
through the Greek root that forms their ending—aeidein,
which means "to sing."
Test Your Vocabulary: What word beginning with "r" refers to a mass for the dead
or a dirge? The answer is …
requiem
