Channel Links

The pop-out chat link still uses the old style chat. If you do not like the changes Ustream has made to chat, use the pop-out link.

The easiest way to do this is to open the pop-out chat in a browser window. Log in. (Type a period in the chat line—hit enter. This will open the login screen.) Size this chat window to equal about 1/3 of your desktop space.

Then open a new window or tab (Ctrl-T or Ctrl-N in most browsers) and use it to open the pop-out video. If you opened a new tab, you can then click on the tab and drag it to an open space on your desktop. Size it to about 2/3 of your desktop space beside the chat.

Now you have both open and can refresh one without disturbing the other. You can resize either without resizing the other.

I hope this helps.

Pop-Out
If you want to view the chat or video in pop-out screens, use the links below. Some find that this places less stress on their computer and/or its memory.

If you use the pop-out links, it is recommended that you open two browser windows. That way, if one needs to be refreshed, the other is not affected.

  Hello Vriends,
Happy Easter, everyone! I hope you are all able to spend some time with family, or in a way that suits you best for the holiday. Myself, I sobbed my way through the end of Ben Hur this morning (the color version with Chuck Heston) while Mary was off singing. Now we've been cooking up some roast beef, and I've made the Jello salad, and all that. And the hot cross buns--Yummy...

We had been promised some rain today, but so far it has amounted to about five minutes of light rain. Hopefully it will put some snow up into the mountains, anyway.

This upcoming week I should be getting the second 3D printer loaner. I have been working to try to get my vapor chamber done, because pretty much everything I made in the first go-around is in serious need of a bath. An acetone vapor bath, that is! The printing process makes for a lot of horizontal ribs that are rather unsightly on sculptures. The use of vapor is just about the only way to get those smooth.

Saturday morning we had a very nice (but brief) lunar eclipse. I got a few good pictures by driving out towards Fairfield, then on the way back I stopped off at my favorite place--the Lagoon Valley. It was nice to take some photos and watch the motorized paragliders buzzing around. That sure does look like a lot of fun! I will show some of the shots I got on the chat next weekend.

But until then, I should get back to the kitchen and check on the progress of our dinner. Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding--Yum!!

Have a great week, and hope to see y'all next Sunday!
  Cheers, VacaDude

Sharoot Sharoot's featured pictures can be found at the end of each newsletter, under Photos of the Week. She says that since they are located at the end, then "Sharoot's the Caboose!"

Today Sharoot shares a  pictures of a recent trip to a BIG backyard.

She also shares more about her Harris's Sparrow that visited a few months ago. You can read about that here.

ChatterChopz ChatterChopz and DotRot are proud to announce the completion and publication of a book all about CC! It's entitled Unexpected Lessons From My Daughter: The Blessings of Parenting a Special Needs Child. If you want to read it, it is available in both Paperback and Kindle formats. It's got dozens of photos of CC, from birth to present. You can view it or purchase it here:  http://goo.gl/RjCFT3  (At present, Amazon has discounted the paperback version by over $4!) If you DO read the book, please leave a review at Amazon. The more reviews I get, the more likely Amazon is to promote the book.

Elsalynda Elsalynda's latest column entitled Nature in the City: From Waltham to Crystal River and Back, is available online here:

http://waltham.wickedlocal.com/article/20150325/NEWS/150329656

Make sure you check out the photo of a rare Bohemian Waxwing in Waltham accompanying the article!!!

Elsa also tells us that she has had a poem selected for publication. She says she is very excited to be a part of this book and feels like a poet in good company, with known authors. Her poem on Great Horned Owls has a page with a beautiful photo opposite. Her writing group helped her with this piece. The book, Secrets of Wisdom by Joyce Gerrish, is now available at Amazon.

ChocoMare Ruthrings sent us this news on March 28:  "I don't know which of you have Susan [ChocoMare]on Facebook, but you may know her husband was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia several months ago. I would guess he's only in his 50s. She went home from work Thursday and he was coughing terribly and so confused he could hardly open the door. They finally went to the ER and it's downhill from there. . low sodium, dehydration, then seizures, then ICU, and now comfort treatment only and Hospice!!! I feel so bad for her!!! Please pray for a peaceful conclusion for both David and Susan."

And then we received this news on March 29:  "David died overnight, but this is what Susan posted on Facebook a few minutes earlier. Wow!

I don't know why God hasn't released his body yet....but perhaps there is just one here in this ICU who needs to see that we, who are in the Lord, do not grieve as those who have no hope. We grieve with THE Hope, The Blessed Assurance that one day, when our tent is folded, we will see Him face to face. And just maybe they'll ask, "How...tell me how you have joy despite the tears?" And I can smile thru those years and say "May I introduce you to my Lord?"

KSBorn KSBorn was in regression for lymphoma and breast cancer. It has since returned and she's going for Chemo now. She and her doctors are attacking it vigorously and she needs our prayers. She needs our prayers for healing, for the Lord to guide her doctors, and for the peace and strength as she undergoes the treatment.

VacaDude and his cousin, Kevin UPDATE:  WONDERFUL NEWS!!!!!  "Our family got some news this last week from my cousin Kevin, and it was wonderful: the latest tests show that he is in full remission!! So I'd like to thank you all for your thoughts and prayers; it meant a lot to me and to Kevin. If you could extend a few of those prayers to his mother Irene, I would really appreciate it. In a cruel twist of fate, Kevin's mom was diagnosed with lymphoma--very similar to Kevin's--that was located in her abdomen. Last I heard, she was responding well to the chemo. Apparently it made for some lively chemo treatment sessions--mother and son in together! They have always been a fun family, and I really hope Irene pulls through as well."

TheDaddyBird, TDB is now in the rehab facility. Believe it or not, he didn't qualify for the rehab we WANTED him to get—he was doing too well! After a rocky start at the facility he did qualify for, he's doing much better. He's receiving physical therapy (for the hip), cardio therapy (for the bypass) and pulmonary therapy (for his COPD). It's all a delicate balancing act. The physical therapy taxes his lungs which makes him short of breat which raises his heart rate which taxes his heart. They're trying to keep everything at an even keel, but still get the therapy he needs. Please keep him in your prayers.

CC has been a real trooper and a big help through all of this. I am VERY proud of her.

Marilyn Crabb UPDATE:  Hi! I survived six months of chemotherapy. I'll have my breast tumor and left axillary nodes removed on Friday, Feb. 13. Radiation will be next. Please pray that the surgeon does a good job and all my cancer is removed!

My screen name was/is MarilynLA on UStream.  (Marilyn from Los Angeles)

Littleguys  UPDATE:  The latest news from Littleguys:
I have been limping a lot over the past two years.  Pinched nerve.  Over a year ago, I put my foot down and insisted we find out why.  Not the joints.  X-ray, then MRI showed that the discs that I slipped years ago, one is flat and the other bulging, plus I have the "not unexpected" arthritis in the vertebrae where the nerves come out of the spinal column and go down the leg.  Taking care of it all got delayed.  The doctors wanted to treat the Breast Cancer first, even if it were only Stage Zero since, as they put it, cancer can kill and pinched nerves won't.  Caused weight gain, since I can't walk as much as I used to...LOL

Anyway, finally got to go back to the doctor about my back.  Three options.  First one, surgery, no one wants.  Second is to inject something, I think it was a type of cortisone.  Third option, I start tonight, taking a pill every night that is supposed to calm down the excited / inflamed, screaming nerves.
Keep your fingers crossed, and prayers coming.  I really need to be able to get out and walk more to get rid of this weight, and show my horses in halter classes.

Caboval Joey has gone to the Rainbow Bridge. Please keep Caboval in your prayers.

Elsalynda Keep Elsalynda in your prayers as she struggles with health, computer and weather related issues.

GentleDoe Please pray for me, my house, Section 8 assistance & a resolution to this situation. My sister has POA for my father now. My mother had it until my sister had him sign it over to her prior to her taking him out of the assistive living home & into her home. (She now owns half her home & dad the other half.) Dad had my home & my parent's home put in his name alone, now my sister has POA. She has threatened to put mom in a home & she wants me out of both the house I rented from my father & my parent's house.

I need a house to be able to keep my birds. While my birds are usually quiet, if anything disturbs them they can be quite loud. My 5 birds & 2 bunnies are the only family I have other than my human family. My mother & I have not been able to see or speak to my father since August of last year, 2014. My mother wakes up calling for my father. This is taking its toll on my mother's already fragile health. My health is also struggling but I cannot allow it to be known because I am the only one to stay & care for my mother. My mother would not last long in a home with little if ay visitation.

Thank you all of the Vacafamily and Vriends for the prayers. Hope to get to check in for a few minutes, I've just recently got the internet again.

A Message
from Zorro

  Hello there, Everbuddy!

Zorro the Mouse here. I hope you are all having a lovely Easter day. Maybe with some chocolate-covered Tauntzlets? We do not have any chocolate around here today, but there is a yummy pecan pie waiting for later. That is a rare treat!

I got to go out to the Lagoon Valley with the Dude yesterday. For the most part, I stayed in the car. There are lots of birdies that hang out in that park. A lot of them are looking for something to eat. Most of the time, it is stuff like crickets and worms and stuff. But some of the bigger birds...let's just say that it was probably best that being a mouse--I just stay in the car. I've tried running across fields from time to time, and you just never know what might come along and scoop you up!

Well, I hope you can all make it for some Storytime writing next Sunday, and then I can do the reading at the chat. And who knows what the Dude and I might be able to cook up with the printer?!

Until then, Cheezerschnocks!

  Yours Most Whiskerly,
Zorro

If anyone wants to request a recipe or a recipe category, just email me.

Easy Orange Rolls

  Ingredients

12 frozen Rhodes dinner rolls

cup melted butter

Zest of 1 orange

˝ cup sugar

GLAZE:

1 cup powdered sugar

2 tablespoons orange juice

2 tablespoons milk

  Directions

Place frozen rolls in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Cover with greased plastic wrap and let thaw according to package directions. (This usually takes 4 to 5 hours depending on the temperature in your kitchen. You can even thaw them in the refrigerator overnight!)

Preheat oven to 350°F. Pour melted butter evenly over the tops of thawed rolls.

In a small bowl, mix together the orange zest and sugar. Pour sugar mixture evenly over the buttery tops of rolls

Bake, uncovered, 18 to 20 minutes. Remove from oven and let stand 10 minutes before glazing. While rolls are baking, whisk together all the glaze ingredients in a small bowl. Pour glaze all over rolls. Serve warm!

Yields: 12 rolls

Easter Brownies

  Ingredients:

1 cup (2 sticks) salted butter, melted
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 cups granulated sugar
4 large eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1⅓ cups flour
12-ounce (ish) jar hot fudge sauce
16 Double Stuff Oreos (use Spring Oreos for pretty color!)
11-ounce bag Kraft Caramel bits
2 tablespoons heavy cream
Roughly 25 bunny shaped Marshmallow Peeps

  Ingredients:
Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray a 9x13" pan with nonstick spray (line with foil prior to spraying -- it makes the brownies easier to remove) and set aside.

In a large bowl, whisk together the cocoa and melted butter. Stir in sugar until combined. Stir in eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each. Stir in vanilla. Fold in flour JUST until you no longer see flour streaks in the batter. Gently fold in the hot fudge sauce.

Spread half of batter in prepared pan. Evenly place Oreos over the surface and cover with remaining batter. Bake for about 20 minutes, until a knife inserted in the center comes out with fudgy crumbs but no raw batter. Let brownies cool for 30 minutes.

In a microwave safe bowl, heat caramel bits and cream, stopping every 30 seconds to stir until smooth. Pour over brownies and spread evenly. Top with Peeps before caramel sets.

Let brownies cool to room temperature. For easy cutting, chill in the refrigerator before slicing and serving.

Sharoot shares,

"My husband took this at Brick Pond Park. His mate is there too. Hope we'll have baby pictures to send you later…"

Now he shares them with VacaFamily. Enjoy!

"A 95-year-old man has officially become the world's oldest pilot.
He's also become the first pilot to fly at 25 miles per hour."
-Conan O'Brien

What animal drives an automobile?
The road hog.

What did the father porcupine say to his son just before spanking him?
This is going to hurt me more than it's going to hurt you.

A little boy came home eating a big candy bar. Seeing the candy bar, his mother remembered he had already spent all his allowance money. Surprised, she asked him where he got it. "I bought it at the store with the dollar you gave me," he said. "But that dollar was for Sunday School," his mother replied. Smiling, the boy said, "I know, Mom, but the Pastor met me at the door and got me in for free!"

On my birthday, my friends Tina and Marge wanted to cook something special for me, and they suggested Wiener Schnitzel. But it's not my favorite, so I said, "Don't fry for me, Marge and Tina!"

Zorro's Word
of the Week

CHOUSE

Pronunciation:  \CHOWSS\

noun

Definition of CHOUSE

cheat, trick

EXAMPLES

In Dickens’s A Tale of Two Cities, the miserable Mr. Cruncher fumes,

"If I ain't … been choused this last week into as bad luck as ever a poor

devil of a honest tradesman met with!"

"The 18th fairway Saturday afternoon bore a scene only accessible in a gentrified sport

such as golf; Polson's Jaylin Kenney bookended by Erin Tabish and Katie Fyall of Whitefish,

all three girls calm and cordial as could be, each likely secretly hoping to chouse a collapse out of the other."

— Mark Robertson, Lake County Leader & Advertiser (Polson, Montana), October 9, 2013

DID YOU KNOW?

"You shall chouse him of Horses, Cloaths, and Mony," wrote John Dryden in his 1663 play

Wild Gallant. Dryden was one of the first English writers to use chouse, but he wasn't the last.

That term, which may derive from a Turkish word meaning "doorkeeper" or "messenger,"

has a rich literary past, appearing in works by Samuel Pepys, Henry Fielding, Sir Walter Scott,

and Charles Dickens, among others, but its use dropped off in the 20th century. In fact, English speakers

of today may be more familiar with another chouse, a verb used in the American West to mean

"to drive or herd roughly." In spite of their identical spellings, though, the two chouse

homographs are not related (and the origin of the latter is a source of some speculation).
