A Note From the Dude   Chatter
News
    VacaBlog

  Hello Vriends,

Happy Mother's Day to you all!! A happy day to all who are mothers, have mothers, have mothers in Heaven, or whatever. I have certainly been keeping my Mom in my thoughts today. Some years the holiday is an unpleasant reminder of the loss, but this year I feel very good. I like to think Mom has been tagging around with me all day.

This week I have been catching up on all the projects I had to put on hold while I finished the trade-show graphics. As far as I know, the show went off okay. (No news is good news.) So I spent one day this week meeting with my client Norman Lloyd, as we are going to try to finish up his Vietnam documentary.

As for the DVDs, those are coming soon! I had some video issues when I put them to disc, and they wouldn't play on my test player. So I had to spend some time last week trying to figure out what was wrong. Turns out some file formats have changed (AGAIN!), but I think I have a good workflow going. I am hoping to get that finished up tonight and I can start shipping them on Monday and Tuesday. (I'm going to have to take them in batches, as it takes about a half hour to burn each one.) So I apologize for the delay, but you'll be getting those within a few days now! :D

Now, in truth I cannot say I spent ALL this week working. I lost a couple of hours each day thanks to NASA. Seems they have stuck some HD Video cameras outside the International Space Station. Then the whole thing is streamed down to Ustream. The result is amazing. I have been taking some breaks from time to time whenever the ISS flies over an interesting spot on the Earth. I have shot some footage of it, and I'm going to be playing that video on tonight's VacaChat broadcast.

So yes, there is going to be a broadcast tonight, and I hope you can make it! I do realize this is Mother's Day, but I was thinking it might be okay because a lot of people do their celebrating earlier in the day. If not, there is always the recording. I am planning to make it a Mother-oriented show, so I hope you can make it and we can have some silly fun. I couldn't defer the broadcast to next weekend, because we are going to be out of town for our anniversary. May is always a bizzy month.

And speaking of bizzy, I had better get back to it--got to edit the ISS Camera footage together. It's pretty amazing stuff! (Also, there is going to be a pass nearly over my house in about a half hour, and I want to try to record that.)

So I hope to see you tonight, but if not--Happy Mother's Day, and have a great week!

  Cheers, VacaDude

Elsa is in need of a good, used Windows computer (4 years old or newer). Her computer died and she bought a new high end Dell laptop Latitude 6540 but the materials and chemicals used in making this new computer are causing her health problems. The new one is available for purchase or trade.

ChatterChopz ChatterChopz' ankle is still improving. She's still got a bit of a limp, but plans to try to return to karate tomorrow evening. She may not be able to fully participate, but she plans to try to do what she can.

Caboval Caboval is in need of our prayers for her dog, Joey. You can read more about Joey and his struggles here: http://gfwd.at/1n8NU0h.

UPDATE on Joey! Caboval writes: “Joey is in remission but the chemo almost killed him. He was in liver failure and the Dr gave him a 50/50 chance to live. He made it through that and we have had 3 really good weeks. He was so happy and acting like a puppy, but now he is starting to not eat again and he vomited today so I don't know… It's a rollercoaster. I have a feeling he is having liver issues again. I do really need those prayers!!!”

Elsalynda Elsalynda is also in need of prayers. She is asking for prayers for good care and caring from her primary care physician. Elsa reports that at her last visit, her physician "was at least civil and apologetic." She also reports that her back issues are improving and thanks everyone for their prayers and support. Continue to keep Elsa and her doctor in your prayers.

GentleDoe GentleDoe says her father is recovering. He has moved to a rehab facility. Doe is trying desperately to juggle being with her mother and yet also caring for her birds and other animals. She especially needs prayers about the financial situation and some rather difficult family dynamics. With no transportation and having to rely on others for rides, this has been very difficult for her. The whole family is still in need of our prayers.

Jes and Miss Jonesy Both Jes, and her furkid, Miss Jonesy, are battling health issues and undergoing various tests and procedures. Let's keep both of them in our prayers.

Shari in Memphis UPDATE!!! Just received this from Shari:  "So kind of you to keep prayers going for me. I was hospitalized in November for an event (that just yesterday my doc said was severe enough that it could have killed me) and have pretty much been sick ever since.  I'm trying to be patient as doc said it would take 6 months to a year, to fully recover."

Thank you for your prayers and good thoughts for owl our wonderful VacaFamily members!  If you have any prayer requests, updates or news of answered prayers, please let us know. Email us with the information so it can be included in the next newsletter.

A Message
from Zorro

  Hello there, Everbuddy!
It is your old pal Zorro here. It has been fun having the Dude back home here. Lots of yummy cooking--last night we had spaghetti! And now that he has one of the coffee table pieces done, I have had a nice place to relax in--way back on one of the shelves. It's very warm.

I hope you all can make it to VacaChat tonight, as I am looking forward to sharing a very fun book with you: "Owl Babies". It is a very appropriate Mother's Day book. I have even asked my old friend Einstein to come by and help me with the story. It should be Vun!

Hope to see you there!

  Yours Most Whiskerly,
Zorro

  Garlic and Honey Pork Chops
  Ingredients

2-4 cloves garlic, finely chopped

¼ cup (60 ml) honey

¼ cup (60 ml) lemon juice

2 Tbs (30 ml) soy sauce

2 Tbs (30 ml) dry sherry

Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste

2-3 lbs thin cut (about ½ inch) pork chops

  Directions

Combine the garlic, honey, lemon juice, soy sauce, sherry, salt, and pepper in a sealable plastic bag or shallow pan and marinade the pork chops for at least 2 hours or overnight.

Cook under the broiler just until cooked through (do not over cook), 3 to 4 minutes per side. Meanwhile, bring the remaining marinade to a boil in a small pot over moderate heat. Spoon the sauce over the cooked chops. Serves 4 to 6.

Cheese and Vegetable Twist

  Ingredients

2 eggs
4 ounces Cream Cheese, softened
½ cup Shredded Italian Three Cheese Blend
3 cups frozen broccoli, thawed, drained and chopped fine
½ pound fresh mushrooms, cut into quarters
½ cup cherry tomatoes, cut in half
1 red pepper, chopped
4 green onions, sliced
2 cans (8 oz. each) refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
Salt to taste

Directions

Heat oven to 375ºF.

Mix first 3 ingredients in large bowl until well blended. Stir in next 4 ingredients.

Unroll dough; separate into 16 triangles. Arrange in 11-inch circle on foil-covered baking sheet, with short sides of triangles overlapping in center and points of triangles toward outside. (There should be a 5-inch diameter opening in center of circle.) Spoon cheese mixture onto dough near center of circle. Bring outside points of triangles up over filling, then tuck under dough in center of ring to cover filling.

Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until crust is golden brown and filling is heated through.

Top with additional ½ cup shredded cheese about 10 minutes before end of baking.

The surprise concert was part of Good Deeds Day, an annual event that began in 2007
